Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Guylaine the designer behind Grob, at her east-end studio! Guylaine, originally from Trois-Rivière, first moved to Montreal to study fashion at Cégep Marie-Victorin, and she has been designing ever since. Her women’s label Grob has been around for 6 years and is designed and made entirely in Montreal! (Check out her collection at Boutique Onze!)

I had a chance to speak with Guylaine about her new collection, her inspirations and her personal style!
What inspires your creations?
Traveling, vintage clothing and street style (friends and people I don’t know!)
What do you love most about your job?
I love the creative freedom that my job allows me to have and my flexible schedule.
Describe your creative process?
I’m always compiling inspirations and ideas in my notebook. When it’s time to design a new collection, I first go to my fabric supplier to choose my fabrics for the season. Then with my notebook of ideas and my fabrics in hand I sit down and design my collection. I then usually make my patterns by hand and sometimes use the draping technique!

What inspired your fall 2012 collection?
My trip to Aspin, France! I was inspired by the wilderness and the beautiful mountains.
How would you describe your style in three words?
Comfortable, nostalgic and quality
Who is your style icon?
Vanessa Paradis- I love her style!

Tell us something about yourself that people don’t know about you?
I’m a shy person and have always used fashion has an outlet to express myself.
FInally, show us your favourite piece from your Fall collection!

Here is Vero wearing it!
