Look around you, it’s everywhere! No, I’m not talking about winter. It’s the Christmas season that gets me excited!

For most of us, Christmas means vacation, good times, family reunions, warm food, first snow, sparks in children’s eyes, etc. Here at Onze, we wish it would be that time of year all year long. WE LOVE CHRISTMAS

So this morning, I came in to work and realized… that the big Santa Claus’ Parade was held today on Ste-Catherine Street! Imagine a 20 year-old grown-up in her work environment: OMG THAT’S TODAY?!?!?! WOOOHOOO YES YES YES! WHERE’S THE CAMERA, QUICK! YAY! That was me. I have to admit, I’m still a little kid at heart.

The parade was awesome, with all its elves, fairies, snowmans, gifts, and the star of the day; Santa Claus. The kids were jubilant. So was I.

We had our load of action and magic today here on Ste-Cath with the sidewalks packed with families, characters, cheers and music.

Today’s parade officially kicked off the beginning of the holidays, and I wanted to celebrate that with you. Enjoy, spoil your loved ones and don’t forget to SPOIL YOURSELF!

With Love From Grenoble

I always feel that there is nothing like a week in France to inspire me with great ideas. So when my friend Natasha asked me if I wanted to join her in the south of France, I didn’t hesitate. I admit, it was only because I was thinking more in terms of bring your bikini but soon realized it was bring your hoodie weather.

Standing as tall as can be

Swedish native, Kristian Matsson, a.k.a. The Tallest Man on Earth was in Montreal last september for a sold-out show at Le National. The place was packed, mostly with girls, and it’s quite easy to understand why. With a great raspy voice and a beautiful sense of melody, The Tallest Man On Earth is not only quite handsome, but extremely talented and the sweet sound of his indie-folk melodies created a close to obsession reaction on most of the girls I know. After the release of two LPs and recently a 5-songs EP entitled Sometimes the Blues is Just a Passing Bird, he is well on his way to be one of the faces you’ll gladly see more and more in the future.

French Music, Fire-Raisers and Tractors at Coup de coeur francophone

On November 4th, the Coup de coeur francophone (which translates to French Favorites) festival hit Montreal’s small underground venues. And it does not stop until November 14th, so its unique, intimate and daring concerts are yours to discover. Let me introduce you to my personal favorites…

LES INCENDIAIRES (The Fire-Raisers or The Incendiaries for the English)

This Montreal-based act played l’Esco Bar, a famous Montreal underground venue, on Friday, November 5th. Les Incendiaires are like a blend between gloomy pop and catchy indie-rock.

Poetical lyrics, loads of metaphors, honest and modest voices… This band, lead by romantic Rudy Bernhard, is about passion and heartbreaks. Their videoclip for their new single Amants d’immeuble even made it to the Musiqueplus charts. See how cute, catchy and lovable they are:

TRACTEUR JACK (Tractor Jack)

On Sunday November 7th, the festival brought Tracteur Jack, straight from Outaouais, to Montreal. Those guys really are a good exemple of a regional band: good friends, brothers and roommates form this act that plays swinging gypsy jazz mixed with rockabilly influenced rock’n'roll. Their great stage presence, their hilarious and dynamic sense of humor, their unity and their more than obvious passion for what they do brought them to travel all over the Canadian francophony in 2010. If you like energy fueled concerts and fun times, Tracteur Jack really is a French must for you!

Wednesday November 10th, at Club Soda – Bernard Adamus, winner of the 2010 edition of the Francouvertes and new Quebec heartthrob.

Friday November 12th, at Divan Orange – Jérôme Dupuis-Cloutier, also lead member of le Roi Poisson, and whose solo album, released in October 2010, was applaused by the reviews.
